Underpinning in Brunswick

Underpinning strengthens the foundations under a house or wall when the ground beneath has moved or the footings can no longer carry the load. Soil can shrink, swell or wash away, and older footings can be too shallow for the weight above them. Signs to look for include stair-shaped cracks in brick walls, cracks that keep getting wider, doors and windows that jam, and floors that have dropped in one area. Gaps between walls and ceilings, or around window frames, can also point to foundation movement. Underpinning adds support beneath the existing footings so the building has a firmer base.
